Jennifer Thomas, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
I believe therapy to be an opportunity for people to express feelings and explore change in a safe and protected environment. I utilize multiple techniques to adapt to the issues you bring to the session.
One important part of therapy that I embrace is honesty and truth, while creating an environment that promotes processing and discussion of feelings without blame or criticism.
Jennifer E. Thomas LMFT - Philosophy
My philosophy for therapy includes the belief that there is a connection between thoughts, feelings and inner body awareness. The usefulness of body awareness is its ability to make people aware of, and ultimately free from, these obsessive and restrictive thought patterns that can compromise our relationships, our ability to work, and ultimately our ability to live fully. Brainspotting is a form of therapy I use to help facilitate the connection with the physical body and brain function. My experience in this process assists me in the greater understanding of mental health issues and all it's different facets for myself and my clients.
I utilize art and play therapy for children, adolescents and adults. If verbally expressing yourself is too difficult, art or play therapy will help reveal your concerns, while creating a comfortable sense of protection. Art and play therapy range from drawing pictures, creating crafts, using games, toys and mediums such as clay, and paint that either directly or indirectly relate to an event or feeling. Overall, art and play therapy are useful in obtaining information and processing that information.
I support physical activity and nutrition as an avenue to overall wellness. I myself utilize physical activity and nutrition to keep balanced and healthy providing me with more mental clarity.
